Survey from last week showed our attitudes towards house prices by the way we vote and age group.

Survey from last week showed our attitudes towards house prices by the way we vote and age group. Another key stat to keep in mind is the 3rd / 3rd / 3rd splits for home ownership that has stood the test of time - a 3rd of us own our homes outright, another 3rd own with a mortgage, and the remaining 3rd rent. (Actual stats from 2021 Census are 31.0%, 35%, 30.6%, respectively; a further 2%-3% in social housing need to be added to these numbers).

It's a fairly line ball split - a 3rd want prices to keep rising, <3rd want them to remain flat, and a <3rd want them to fall; with a small remainer have no preference.

The national average tends to line up closely with the ALP voter numbers, while the Green voters, who tend to skew younger and as renters, are the most different from the average. Green voters almost perfectly align with the youngest cohort of 18-34 year olds.
